The global pandemic of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was first reported on 31 December 2019 by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and has to date become a global pandemic as it continues to spread across the globe.

As part of our commitment to you, ASI is offering you and your employees immediate access to a telephonic and online COVID-19 voluntary screening process. Professional counselling and advice will be provided by our specialist COVID-19 Advisory team to further support you and your employees through this process.

The Council for Medical Schemes has instructed all medical schemes in South Africa to cover positive COVID-19 cases from risk, and not day-to-day or savings benefits.

In line with clinical protocols and benefit guidelines, this should cover:

  • All consultations
  • All clinically appropriate diagnostic tests including Viral PCR
  • All clinically appropriate medication
  • Costs of hospitalisation including all complications and rehabilitation.

It is important to note that, if you get tested for COVID-19 and it is negative, the schemes may cover this from your day-to-day benefits or medical savings account, or you may have to pay for the test out of your own pocket – but you will not be liable if you test positive. This is available to medical scheme members, who are only liable for the GP and lab costs as part of the member portion.

How does it work?

Of the 742 742 tests conducted in South Africa, there are currently 35 812 positive cases identified, with 17 291 people having made a recovery and 705 deaths. ASI believes that at a time like this, there is a need for awareness and resourcing to mitigate the ever-growing threat. This is why ASI has stepped up in assisting our fellow South Africans arm themselves with this screening solution.

According to the World Health Organisation, as of 2 June 2020, there have been 6,194,533 million confirmed cases worldwide, however this rate is decreasing by approximately 8.4 % daily, through the observance of social distancing protocols and better hygiene practices.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the COVID-19 virus. It is important to know and understand how it spreads, how you can take the necessary precautions and, as a responsible citizen take the additional step of getting tested to do your part in helping to fight the pandemic.

ASI has taken a proactive role in supporting the nations efforts in preventing the spread of COVID-19 through access to information, testing and counseling for those that are infected or affected by the pandemic. The global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic is one which asks us as humanity to band together to help one another.

We are an independent proudly South African Advisory firm and will continue to serve in excellence as we strive to change the lives of our fellow South Africans.
